Clashes in Jibril city in Herat provience left 36 injured

As a result of clashes between security forces and gunmen, Habibaullah Ghoriani, a local commander in Herat province and 36 people wounded.

The clashes began on Wednesday when security forces were send out to Jibril city in 13th district of Herat to arrest Habibaullah Ghoriani and his gunmen. Local officials in Herat province said the gunmen related with Mr. Ghoriani had teased a number of residents in Jibril city yesterday.

The officials added, by complaints from relatives and families of the victims, security forces launched a military operation yesterday evening to arrest Habibaullah Ghoriani, which led several hours of fighting in the area. As a result of the clash, 36 people have been injured so far, including three children, a woman, 27 men and five security forces. Habibaullah Ghoriani has been condemned by courts about two years ago for forgery, for one year and one month in prison, but security forces have so far failed to detain him.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman of Herat Public Health Department said, injured were taken by ambulance to the district hospital of Herat province, that three of them are in critical condition.

Seyed Wahid Qatali Herat Governor also said, security forces had finally arrested Habibaullah Ghoriani from his house. Meanwhile, some sources said, four members of Mr. Ghoriani have been killed so far and eight others have been detained by security forces. But so far, there is no report about Habibaullah Ghoriani.
